FBR Active Taxpayer List Updated 28 October 2026: How to Check Filer Status

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) currently labels its official Income Tax Active Taxpayer List (ATL) download as “Updated on 28 Oct 2026.” If you need to confirm whether you appear as an active income-tax filer, use FBR’s own verification service rather than an old spreadsheet, screenshot or third-party lookup page.

Important: the date on the download page tells you when the listed file was updated. It is not a new tax law, a fresh filing deadline or a guarantee that every recently filed return will appear immediately.

What the 28 October 2026 update means

FBR’s official download page displays the Income Tax ATL with an update date of 28 October 2026. The ATL is the list used to verify active income-tax taxpayer status. The safest approach is to check the latest version directly with FBR whenever the result matters for a transaction.

Do not assume that a saved copy from a previous week or a message shared on social media is current. FBR also advises users to clear their browser cache and cookies if the latest download does not appear.

How to check FBR filer status online

  1. Open FBR’s official Active Taxpayer List page and select the status-check option.
  2. Choose the appropriate identification type and enter the requested CNIC or NTN details.
  3. Complete any verification step shown on the official portal and submit the search.
  4. Read the result carefully and, if necessary, compare it with the latest ATL download published by FBR.

Use only the official FBR website for this check. Avoid entering your CNIC, tax documents or IRIS credentials into unofficial websites or forms promoted through social media.

Check ATL status by SMS

FBR also publishes an SMS method for basic Active Taxpayer status verification:

  • Individual: type ATL, add one space, then enter the 13-digit CNIC and send it to 9966.
  • Company or association of persons (AOP): type ATL, add one space, then enter the seven-digit NTN and send it to 9966.
  • Azad Jammu and Kashmir: FBR lists a separate AJKATL format. Individuals send the keyword followed by the CNIC without dashes; companies/AOPs use the relevant 11-digit NTN format.

Check the format on FBR’s official instructions before sending the message. Keep the keyword and number in the required order, and do not post your CNIC publicly while asking for help.

What if your name does not appear?

A missing or inactive result should be checked methodically rather than treated as proof that a return was never filed.

  • Check the number: re-enter the CNIC or NTN carefully and make sure you selected the correct taxpayer type.
  • Check your filing record: sign in to FBR’s IRIS system and review the relevant tax-year return and its acknowledgement or submission record.
  • Recheck the official list: if you filed recently, check again against FBR’s latest available record. The public ATL instructions do not promise an exact processing time for every case.
  • Confirm any extra requirement: if the return was filed late or the record remains inactive, verify the applicable legal requirements directly with FBR or a qualified tax professional. Do not rely on an unverified social-media claim about a surcharge or automatic activation.
  • Keep evidence: save the return acknowledgement and any payment receipt, and use FBR’s official support channels if the discrepancy continues.

Why checking the ATL matters

Active taxpayer status can affect the withholding-tax treatment of certain transactions. The applicable rate depends on the transaction and the current law, so a general “filer” label should not be used to guess the tax on a property transfer, vehicle registration, bank transaction or overseas card payment. Check the relevant current rate and your own transaction details separately.

Being listed on the ATL is also not the same as proving that every tax obligation has been settled, that a refund is due, or that a bank or other institution has already refreshed its own records. Keep your filing evidence and verify the specific requirement of the institution involved.

Quick questions

Is the FBR ATL updated on 28 October 2026 the latest list?

FBR’s download page is labelled “Updated on 28 Oct 2026” when checked for this article. Always revisit the official page before relying on the list, because its date can change.

Can I check filer status without internet?

Yes. FBR publishes SMS instructions for individuals and for companies/AOPs using the 9966 service. Follow the official format for your taxpayer type.

Does an active ATL result mean I have no tax to pay?

No. ATL status is a status check, not a complete assessment of every tax liability. Your obligations depend on your income, transactions and the applicable law.
